SUMMER STAFF POSITIONS

Cabin Counselor: The primary responsibility of a counselor is to care for the needs of their campers, creating a safe and engaging environment. Counselors are assigned to a cabin of 8-10 youth whom they lead through the camp schedule. They also plan, lead, and participate in activities with campers.

Site Assistant: This vital staff position works with the Property Manager in maintaining the site and facilities. They help with site projects, assist with dish crew, and may provide program support in the evenings.

Leadership Team: Members of this team work with the Program Director to plan and schedule weekly camp activities and serve as mentors for counselors.

Kitchen Assistant: These staff members work with the Head Cook to prepare all of the delicious meals camp enjoys. Experience is preferred, but those willing to learn on the job are encouraged to apply. 

Arts and Crafts Specialist: This position provides leadership in our Arts and Crafts Area, prepping and teaching various activities, from Tie-Dye, Mosaics, Friendship Bracelets, and more while maintaining cleanliness in the Craft Shed. This position also lives in a Cabin with Campers and Counselors, and takes part in all Evening Activities with Camp.

Rock Wall Specialist/Lifeguard: These positions provide leadership in 2 areas, our Rock Wall, and our Pool. They will be responsible for the safety of Campers and Staff during the Rock Wall sessions during the first 3 activity blocks of the day, then will lifeguard the Pool during activity blocks 4 and 5 during the afternoon. These positions will be responsible for following all safety guidelines, procedures and ensure record keeping for both areas. Training for both of these areas is required, and offered by Camp Lutherwood. These positions also live in Cabins with Campers and Counselors, and take part in all Evening Activities with Camp.

Staff training begins on June 15th, 2026. The last day for staff is August 9th, 2026.

Yes!  All staff are paid for their summer of work. Positions are salaried. Staff are also provided housing, laundry services, and meals at no charge during their employment. Bonuses are available for returning staff members and recruiting friends as staff members. 

The summer begins with about 10 days of orientation. Staff are expected to be present for the entire training period. 

The typical work week of a salaried position is Sunday morning through Friday morning. The reality of camp is that you spend time with campers and are responsible for their safety and well-being the entire time they are at camp. Your work day may include eating meals, hanging out at the cabin, swimming in the pool, playing capture the flag, making s’mores, sleeping, hiking, cleaning bathrooms, singing, and more.  

Camp Lutherwood offers weekend programs during the summer season. At those times, work days and times off are adjusted as needed for each staff member.

Yes! Typically, staff will have Friday afternoons and Saturdays off. When that is not possible due to weekend programs, alternative days will be designated to allow for adequate rest and downtime. Staff also receive breaks during the program day that are coordinated by the Program Team. 

If you need additional days off, please request the dates at the time of hire.

Camp is a great place to build your résumé with leadership opportunities, team work, and problem solving skills. Simultaneously, you will be able to spend lots of time outdoors, build lasting relationships, sing songs, lead games, share meals, and work hard! No two days are alike! In addition, staff members can expect to:

We know that life can be stressful and hard. We want to work with you to help keep you mentally and physically healthy. You will get daily breaks to check out, recharge and refresh. Many of our staff come to camp seeing a virtual or online counselor, and we would love to work with you to make sure you can maintain those key relationships during the summer season.

We emphasize the importance of asking questions about God and faith and encourage both campers and staff to explore their own faith journey throughout their time at camp.

  • All summer staff must submit to federal criminal background and national sex offender checks, provide personal references, and agree to abide by all Camp Lutherwood Oregon Personnel Policies.
  • Some positions require additional certifications such as CPR/First Aid, Lifeguard Certification, or a Food Handler’s Permit.
